The plush, expansive 2020 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Mourre des Perdrix exudes plummy richness and hints of licorice and dark chocolate. It's full-bodied and velvety in feel, with a long, warming finish tinged with garrigue and super-ripe berries.

I love the enveloping nose of ripe red plum and Mediterranean herbs of this stunning Chateauneuf. Excellent concentration and stacks of fine tannins. The harmony and vitality on the full-bodied palate is remarkable. Very long, emphatically dry, and stony finish. A cuvee of 69% grenache, 15% syrah, 15% mourvedre and 1% cinsault. Drink or hold.

This has real freshness both on the nose and palate. It brims with energy, is bracing and intense, with bright acidity and fresh tannins. Only medium-bodied, but possessing such impact and vibrancy. It’s darkly fruited but there is no heaviness, rather great tension. It should last a long time. Drink now for the freshness, later for the complexity. Made with part-destemmed fruit, from the lieu-dit of Mourre des Perdrix.

Checking in at a whopping 16% alcohol, the 2020 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Mourre des Perdrix is a shimmering pale ruby. It mingles aromas of ripe red and black fruits, exotic spices, licorice and crushed rocks. Ripe tannins wrap up this full-bodied, concentrated powerhouse, well-balanced by refreshing acidity. It closes with a savory, persistent finish.

A ripe, seductive version, showing weight as well as structure, with a generous stream of cherry coulis and black and red licorice meeting a layer of crushed iron that brings balance and form. The oak is well-integrated, with singed thyme details. Weighty but not heavy-handed. Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. Drink now through 2035. 700 cases made, 200 cases imported.
