The 2019 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is youthfully coy in the glass, slowly evolving with a bouquet of dusty black cherries, flowery underbrush and crushed violets. It flows across the palate, savory, nearly salty in character, with fleshy wild berry fruits and mineral tones that slowly saturate toward the close. An impenetrable curtain of fine tannins clamps down hard through the finish. A touch of licorice remains as a bump of residual acidity adds a lovely balance. The 2019 is gorgeous in its potential alone, but cellaring is required.
