You'll no doubt recall Villa Sandi from my discovery of their ethereal Cartizze. From the DOCG protected and enforced zone of Valdobbiadene Superiore de Cartizze, Villa Sandi bottles their ultra-impressive expression of Prosecco in throw-back, low shouldered, heavy looking bottles recalling Laurent Perrier Cuvee Rosé. Those who experienced Cartizze with that bottling were thrilled; one taste proved my sentiment, "This is NOT Prosecco, my friends..." Cartizze has done it again. This time, it's their ridiculously well-priced, gorgeously endowed "il Fresco Prosecco," also from their pristinely positioned, highly coveted vineyards within Valdobbiadene. We've never featured any other Prosecco – other than the Cartizze offering – and for good reason. But one taste of this amazing Brut, with its precise fruit, pinpoint aromatics and the weight, definition and finish of classic Champagne, my decision was easy. This is a Prosecco for all those who adore fine bubbles. A wine worthy of your New Year's toast or to accompany your most accomplished dishes. Case buy alert – without a doubt!

The 2019 Prosecco Rosé Brut, a blend of 85% Glera and 15% Chardonnay, shows a gorgeous pink salmon color in the glass. The aromas are subtle at first, taking its time to blossom, as white cherry gives way to fresh mint, then jasmine and rich exotic spice. It’s silky and sweet, energized by bright acids, as saline-minerality adds further balance and poise. The resulting finale is long and quite stunning, with notes of tropical citrus, musky dried peach and inner florals. This entry to the new Prosecco Rosé DOC demands your attention, and it is worth taking your time with it.
