Here I’m find a wonderfully fresh expression, as the 2019 Barberani Polago lifts from the glass with peppery red florals, wild berries, and hints of undergrowth. On the palate, soothing, fleshy textures usher in notes of ripe cherry and hints of sweet spice with cooling acidity. Violet florals echo throughout the finish, with lingering notes of spiced cherry and hints of pepper. Wow, what a remarkably vibrant expression, mixing Montepulciano and Sagrantino, and also an amazing value.
