B‑21 has always offered the best wines at the best prices of any vendor. I had a lot of problems with FedEx shipping on several occasions, but all of a sudden they've implemented a new schedule and notification system that really seems to work. This delivery was on time and perfect. Looking forward to my next order.

Good selection, fair prices and prompt/economical delivery. Minor but worrisome gripe: 2 bottles in the last shipment either were corked or the corks were loosen in shipment. The bottles were both fully intact, as were the foil caps, but both had leaked into the box. One lost about 75% of the wine, and the other only about 10%. They were 2 of 6 vermentino wines from as very reputable Tuscan producer that I know well, having been there twice.

Sadly, UPS damaged my shipment of the last bottles of Banyuls wine in B‑21 inventory. The message I received was that the unbroken bottles of my order was being returned to sender (B‑21). I was beyond bummed! B‑21's customer service was extraordinary. In order to arrange for a replacement shipment to be sent, they had to replenish their stock. Within a few hours, I got a message saying the wine was ordered, and confirmed that I'd receive an email when the order was shipped. I couldn't ask for better service. I highly recommend B‑21 for their selection and service. Thanks so much for going above and beyond.

The folks at B‑21 turn orders quickly and the$24/case shipping cost is reasonable. My shipment arrived with one broken bottle that apparently was empty when it was packed, as there was no evidence of wine in any dividers, the bottles in the case, or the case itself. The cork was still in the bottle. It was disappointing to lose a bottle of my wife's favorite wine, and they refunded the price of the bottle without delay. It was unfortunate that this happened, but hard to understand how an empty bottle could have been put in the case. I am satisfied with their response and hope to continue doing business with them.

The Avril family, their renowned parcels planted adjacent to the ruins of the old papal towers in Chateauneuf-du-Pape, have been consistently bottling brilliant wines for decades. Among my very favorites – my personal collection spans multiple vintages – these are wines of unmistakable breed and character; a complete joy to experience. Originally established in the 18th century, their primary parcel is augmented by seventeen old vine plots throughout the appellation, adding further dimension to a wine already at the very highest levels of quality. Over the last few vintages, my notes indicate ever improved character. Paul-Vincent has bottled even more in a long line of rock stars. Draconian selections followed daily passes through each of his parcels, painstakingly clipping each vine for nothing but the very finest berries.

Due to devastating yields, there’s not much of the 2018 Châteauneuf Du Pape to go around, but it’s going to be worth the extra effort to track down. Based on 50% Grenache, 40% Mourvèdre, and the rest Syrah (and a splash of other permitted varieties), it offers a textbook, classic Châteauneuf du Pape nose of mulled red and black fruits, Provençal garrigue, ground pepper, and saddle leather. These all carry to a medium to full-bodied Clos des Papes that has thrillingly polished tannins, flawless balance, and a great finish. Made in a style similar to the 1999, 2004, and maybe a kiss of the 2006, it has the beautiful elegance (again, a Grand Cru Burgundy comes to mind) paired with plenty of intensity and length. I doubt it will shut down and it’s going to evolve nicely for 15-20 years or more.

A very refined, silky style, with subtle bitter cherry, damson plum and raspberry coulis notes racing through, flanked by garrigue and sandalwood notes and ending with graceful rooibos tea and mineral threads. This offers understated luxury. Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault and Mourvèdre. Best from 2022 through 2038. 2,000 cases made, 250 cases imported.

There is more Mourvèdre here than an average year as the Grenache was hit relatively hard and it shows in the aromatic profile comprising damson, plum skin, mashed blueberry and liquorice. There's also a floral element and a little cinnamon kick on the finish. The tannins are silky, and the balance of acidity is good. It bears a certain resemblance to the 2015 but a little darker in style, concentrated and ripe, more mulled and more butch in style than a classic year. Just 30,000 bottles made from a yield of 9hl/ha - their smallest ever crop, losing 70% to mildew.

Bursting with striking red-fruit aromas and delicate cinnamon, clove and star anise notes, the 2018 Chateauneuf du Pape is another terrific vintage from this estate. While certainly full-bodied and powerful, it's also lithe and silky, with an almost airy feel on the palate that translates into great elegance on the lengthy finish.

Bright violet. Expressive, smoke-accented cherry, Chambord, licorice, succulent herb and exotic spice qualities on the nose. Weighty and broad on the palate, offering intense red fruit, floral pastille, allspice, cola and botanical herb flavors that turn sweeter as the wine opens up. The floral note gains strength with air and drives the impressively long, penetrating finish, which features polished tannins and resonating cherry and floral notes.
