The 2018 Clos Badon-Thunevin is fabulous. In 2018, Clos Badon is 50% Merlot and 50% Cabernet Franc, which is to say more Franc than normal as it proved more resistant to mildew than the Merlot. Crushed flowers, mint, raspberry jam, blood orange and lavender are all beautifully delineated in this vivid, sculpted Saint-Émilion. What a gorgeous wine it is.

The 2018 Clos Badon Thunevin is deep purple-black colored and a little grumpy to begin, offering glimpses at tar, tilled soil and creosol notes, giving way to a core of blackberry pie, baked plums and fruitcake plus touches of molten licorice, black tea and Provence herbs. Full-bodied, the muscular black fruit completely coats the mouth, framed by ripe, rounded tannins and delivering surprisingly great freshness, finishing long and spicy.

The 2018 Clos Badon Thunevin is another hedonistic wine from Jean-Luc Thunevin. Its deep purple color is followed by ample jammy black and blue fruits as well as complex notes of graphite, charcoal, and a touch of minerality. It has good density, medium to full body, ripe tannins, and a great finish. Drink this plump, sexy Saint-Émilion on release and over the following 15 years or more.
