Attending the launch of a new wine project in 1998 called Almaviva, hosted by the Baroness Philippine de Rothschild at SOBE's Delano Hotel – it wasn't clear what forces the wines of the Andes would bring to our wine world decades later. Most propitious was this collaboration; Chateau Mouton-Rothschild and the Chilean winery Concha y Toro – their flagship Don Melchor. Two decades later Almaviva is a darling of Chile, but not the only Chilean property too have joined the 100 point club with both Chadwick and Vina Sena members. Momentum has been building but no longer a trend. Chile is turning out world class wines. Almaviva is now a double 100 pointer with the recent reveal of the 2017, joining the 100 point 2015. Lamentably, pricing has not ignored this. Exceptional demand world-wide, particularity in Asia will drive pricing higher. |
