Reflecting the rich legacy of legendary producer Marchesi Antinori, these Prunotto offerings range from an appealing entry level Dolcetto to high scoring Barolos, a comprehensive selection of quality Piedmont reds sourced from outstanding vineyards and value priced for mixing a case.

Situated on a verdant hillside overlooking the iconic amphitheater shaped Bussia Cru, Prunotto is located on the southeast side of the Tanaro River between Barbaresco and Barolo, its extensive estate vineyards spanning the territories of the Langhe and Monferrato. Named for Alfredo Prunotto who purchased the one-time cooperative winery in 1923, Prunotto has steadily grown in size since 1994 under the ownership of Marchesi Antinori, the Italian winemaking dynasty best known for their Tuscan wines including Solaia and Tignanello, its most recent purchase in the Cerretta Cru increasing Prunotto's estate-owned vineyards and parcels under long-term lease to over 78 hectares including 13 hectares in Barolo and 5 hectares in Barbaresco. Crafted from Piedmont’s native Dolcetto grape known for producing “juicy, quaffable, early-drinking wines” according to James Suckling, the appealing 2021 Prunotto Dolcetto d'Alba was aged in stainless steel vats to preserve its fragrant and abundant fresh ripe fruit, while the entry level 2020 Prunotto Occhetti Langhe Nebbiolo was aged in oak barrels for around 16 months yielding bright cherry fruit with smooth tannins, both revealing well-balanced acidity that makes them a pleasure to enjoy with food. Sourced from an “exemplary 2019 vintage” according to the Wine Spectator’s Bruce Sanderson, the elegant 93 pt. 2019 Prunotto Barbaresco offers bright cherry and berry fruit with a vibrant, smooth finish, while the single vineyard 95 pt. 2019 Prunotto Barbaresco Bric Turot “is the deepest and most potent” of Prunotto’s Barberescos according to Antonio Galloni of Vinous, its darker cherry fruit hinting of graphite and smoky spice and both built to evolve over the next decade and beyond. Aged in a mix of large oak casks for 18 months, the elegantly understated 92 pt. 2017 Prunotto Barolo is a “charming, gracious Barolo” according to Vinous critic Antonio Galloni, while the smooth and silky 92 pt. 2018 Prunotto Barolo is “very elegant and fresh” according to Decanter’s Ines Salpico, both offering bright red fruit with taut, refined tannins and exhibiting Barolo’s excellent potential for aging.

From one of Italy’s most legendary wine dynasties, this selection of meticulously crafted Prunotto reds offers a range of outstanding choices for Piedmont wine lovers seeking value and anyone looking to explore the red wines of the region, all delicious and satisfying choices unbeatably priced to enjoy often.

Prunotto's 2017 Barolo is a very pretty, ethereal wine. Rose petal, spice, blood orange, mint and crushed red berry fruit are all nicely lifted. There is maybe just a bit of firmness to the tannin, but that also lends energy and drive. Drink this charming, gracious Barolo over the next decade or so.

92 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous (Oct 2021)

A subtle nebbiolo here with medium body, silky texture and lots of cherry and red-berry aromas and flavors. Some tobacco, too. Easygoing, integrated, drink-me-now Barolo.

90 points, James Suckling (Jul 2021)
