Although well known for Barolo, the origins of Poderi Luigi Einaudi are in the heart of Dogliani, where the Dolcetto grape is most expressive. Dolcetto from Dogliani is sumptuous red with moderate tannins, a most compatible food wine. In 1897 Luigi replanted 25 acres of vineyards to Dolcetto - the prescient beginning combined with a century of serious Dolcetto devotion yielded a world-renowned producer. Doubling down, Luigi added another 36 acres of vineyards in 1923 on a long Dogliani hill with superb southern exposure. The combination of exposition, old vines and relatively significant production for the region makes this a serious bargain from a venerable producer.
