I Greppi is founded on the passion of Lucio Landini, well known for his work at Fattoria Viticcio in Chianti, which has continued to produce outstanding wines under his son, Alessandro. In 2001, Alessandro decided to expand the family's holdings into Bolgheri around Castagneto Carducci, an area perfectly suited to growing Bordeaux varietals. Alessandro's choice of vineyards was by no means a lucky draw – the Antinori family had coveted the vineyard sites of I Greppi to use in their renowned wine Guado al Tasso, with nearby neighbors including Sassicaia and Ornellaia. I Greppi is now under different ownership, but Alessandro continues to serve as a consultant, producing this uniquely Tuscan blend of Bordeaux varietals.
With its exceptional location near the Mediterranean coast, the vineyards for the Greppicante Bolgheri Rosso benefit from sea breezes and elevation, extending the ripening and resulting in a rich flavor. This depth of fruit combined with bold complexity has garnered Greppicante rave ratings year after year. Wine critic Antonio Galloni has been among its biggest fans, calling past vintages "impeccable, powerful and opulent" and summing it up quite simply as a wine that made him smile. We are certain this exceptional 2017 I Greppi Greppicante, a phenomenal Super Tuscan at an equally phenomenal price, will have you too grinning from ear to ear.
