Situated halfway between Marseille and Nice, vineyards at Chateau de Berne date back to Roman times. Sitting on the Aurelian Way, the Roman road which connected Spain to Italy, it was here that a wine trading post existed, An ancient clay oven from this time found on the property is a testament to the trade and transportation of wine in clay amphoras.
Today, Château de Berne welcomes wine lovers to an exceptional, luxurious setting: a five-star Relais & Château hotel and spa, restaurants, one a has a Michelin star, a cooking school and 1,235 acres of magnificent natural scenery.
I find the Rosé made here exceptional, and the Inspiration among the best I have tasted of the 2017 vintage. The vineyards are situated on chalk, an ancient Triassic plateau. The chalk terroir gives this Rosé great vibrancy, precision, and acidity that proves excellent with food.
