A blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc and displaying a deep garnet-purple color, the 2017 Clos de Sarpe has a totally sexy, wonderfully spicy nose of star anise, cloves, Sichuan pepper and allspice over a core of blueberry preserves, chocolate-covered cherries and crème de cassis with hints of violets and licorice. Full-bodied, muscular and with a firm backbone of seriously ripe, velvety tannins, it has amazing freshness and a wonderfully layered, epically long finish.

93-95 points, Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Advocate (Issue # 236 - Apr 2018)

One of the gems in the vintage is the 2017 Château Clos de Sarpe, which comes from a 3.7-hectare vineyard just northeast of the town of Saint-Emilion. This is thin clay soils over deep limestone and the 2017 is a rough blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc, brought up in 60% new French oak. Gorgeous blue and black fruits, violets, graphite and awesome minerality flow to a medium to full-bodied, ripe, concentrated, yet pure and elegant Saint-Emilion that has everything. It’s going to be drinkable with just short-term cellaring and cruise in the cellar. Tasted twice.

92-95 points, Jeb Dunnuck (Apr 2018)

The 2017 Clos de Sarpe is once again one of the most distinctive wines in Saint-Émilion. Sumptuous, bold and racy, Clos de Sarpe packs a serious punch. A rush of dark red cherry, plum, rose petal, mint and blood orange infuse this sumptuous, exotically ripe Saint-Émilion. Clos de Sarpe is not quite as exaggerated in style as it was just a few short years ago, which is a good thing. The 2017 is gorgeous.

91-94 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous (May 2018)

A layered and pretty wine with plum, chocolate and cedar character. Medium body and firm tannins with a fresh and lively finish. Very solid and tight Linear and racy. From organically grown grapes.

92-93 points, James Suckling (Apr 2018)
