Picked rather early but with almost 20° KMW, the 2016 Loibner Riesling Ried Loibenberg is super clear, fresh and spicy on the nose where ripe, concentrated stone fruit and white seed fruit aromas are displayed along with beautifully dusty notes of crushed rocks. On the palate this is a full-bodied, highly elegant, finessed, beautifully lush but also tensioned and vibrating Loibenberg with a very long, intense, highly aromatic, complex and stimulating salty finish. This is a well-structured, very energetic and digestible dry Riesling with fine tannins, perfectly ripe fruit and a vital finish. The grapes were slightly crushed and macerated for several hours on the press. The must fermented 60% in large oak vats and 40% in stainless steel. Tasted a few days after bottling in August 2017.

Some botrytis (floral honey) on the nose, but on the palate the wine carries this extremely well and gains extra concentration from it. The crisp acidity makes the finish very clean in spite of the power and richness. Drink or hold.
