Giacomo Rallo and his wife, Gabriella – the "Fleeing Woman" and her flowing locks their logo – launched Donnafugata in 1983; today, they are the leading family of Sicilian wine. Accolades are numerous, Antonio Galloni reporting, "There are few better estates in Italy than this one owned by Giacomo and Gabriella Rallo... [thanks in part to] the marvelous work done on the island of Pantelleria, where the Rallo family has invested huge sums of money..."

Donnafugata's Tancredi is one of Sicily's most popular red wines, and it's easy to see why. The 2016 Tancredi is rich and soft at the same time, with a very pleasing texture that caresses the palate with dark fruit, spice and plum. The wine is mostly a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Nero d'Avola, although some Tannat and other grapes are thrown in. It ages in oak for 14 months. This is a complete effort that boasts thick layering and volume. Some 89,000 bottles were made.

This opens with earthy aromas of dark-skinned berry, new leather, cedar and tilled soil. The savory palate delivers black plum, cassis, tobacco and licorice alongside fine-grained tannins. Enjoy through 2025.
