One of those “wow” wines, the 2016 Châteauneuf Du Pape Lieu-Dit Bois Lauzon checks in as 100% old-vine Grenache sourced from a single vineyard located in the northern part of the appellation. It's a powerhouse of a wine, yet it’s lively and focused, with plenty of elegance as well as purity. Notes of ripe black cherries, blackberries, roasted herbs, licorice, ground pepper, and graphite all emerge on the nose. Full-bodied, concentrated, and flawlessly balanced on the palate, it has ripe yet polished tannins, a terrific mid-palate, and a great finish. This awesome Châteauneuf du Pape will benefit from another 3-4 years of bottle age and is going to keep for another 20 years or more. Bravo to the Durieu family!
