Producing its Grand Vin and second wine with the same meticulous attention to detail as their iconic “Super Second” Leoville Las Cases, the Delon family's Chateau Potensac has been described by the Wine Advocate as “one of the most reliable and value-priced wines of Bordeaux,” these highly-rated selections boasting remarkably fresh, powerful fruit hinting of minerality with rich, ripe tannins from top vintages offered at a superb bargain price.

Sourced from hilly mounds boasting limestone covered with clay and gravel similar to the soils found in nearby Saint-Estephe, Chateau Potensac employs rigorous selection in the vineyard with nearly half of the crop going to the second wine, led by the technical team of Leoville Las Cases and consulting enologist Eric Boissenot. Described as “a delicate, gracious Merlot-based wine“ by Vinous critic Antonio Galloni, the 91 pt. Chapelle de Potensac is “based on its great fruit” according to the Wine Enthusiast’s Roger Voss that’s “juicy, spicy,” with a “crisp, fresh” finish, while the 90 pt. 2016 Chapelle is “an absolutely gorgeous second wine” that’s “flat-out delicious” according to critic Galloni, both delivering immediate enjoyment. Enjoying over 10 years of additional pristine aging at the Chateau, the 91 pt. 2010 Chateau Potensac boasts “impressive body and grip on the finish” according to Neal Martin, who after tasting it in 2020 declared it ready to enjoy through 2040. Offering “ample upfront appeal that will keep for 15+ years” according to Jeb Dunnuck, the 94 pt. 2016 Chateau Potensac is described as “super-seductive and easy to drink” by Inside Bordeaux critic Jane Anson, calling it “a definite buy.” Finally the 94 pt. 2019 Chateau Potensac is just on the cusp of its decades’ long evolution, showing “lovely power, with a clear Pauillac-like tannic structure” and a “top buy” according to Decanter’s Georgina Hindle while Jeb Dunnuck declares it “a wine to buy in multiples or a case.”

Showing energetic, clean fruit and muscular, age-worthy structure, these top-scoring Chateau Potensac selections offer exceptional quality at a spectacular value price, some ready to enjoy now and all a great choice for stocking the cellar.

An attractive nose with red fruit and an array of red flowers that lead to a palate that has red fruit at its core and a fresh, attractive set of polished, vibrant tannins. Fresh finish. This has ripeness and verve. A blend of 75 per cent merlot, 17 per cent cabernet sauvignon and eight per cent cabernet franc. Second wine of Château Potensac. Exceptional value. Try from 2022.

91 points, James Suckling (Feb 2019)

The 2016 Chapelle de Potensac is an absolutely gorgeous second wine from Jean-Hubert Delon's Potensac estate. Fresh, perfumed and beautifully lifted in the glass, the Chapelle is flat-out delicious. Floral notes add freshness to a core of sweet red cherry, pomegranate, blood orange and spice flavors. Delon's entire portfolio is impressive in 2016, but the wines from Potensac are especially of note. Tasted two times.

90 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous (Jan 2019)
