"Nifty" isn't a description typically used to describe a well-crafted Bordeaux, but when the Wine Advocate's Neal Martin used it to label the recent releases from Chateau Siaurac in Lalande de Pomerol, we took notice. We know you will too. Bordering the acclaimed Pomerol region (think Petrus, Le Pin and other exceptional Right Bank producers), the vineyards of Chateau Siaurac are just a stone's throw away from this most famous Merlot-producing terroir, crafting quality Bordeaux but at a fraction of the price of its neighbors. Improved viticulture incorporating organic and biodynamic vineyard practices has been paired with a cellar "dream team," including Pénélope Godefroy from Château Latour as Technical Director along with consulting oenologist Jean-Claude Berrouet, formerly at Pétrus. As a result, the quality of this Bordeaux blend has soared. In the superb 2015 vintage, the Chateau Siaurac exhibits an elegant array of black fruit balanced with an age worthy backbone of fine tannins. Critics agree, with 90 plus ratings across the board. 2015 Chateau Siaurac delivers an exceptional Merlot-driven Bordeaux, drinking beautifully now but with the complexity and structure to age 5-10 years. Nifty indeed.

Second vintage with Penelope Godefroy, and at the start of the organic conversion. This is lovely, already accessible with its dark brambly fruits and soft tannins. The emphasis here is definitely on pleasure, and it's extremely tasty as a result.

Features a tasty core of steeped plum and black cherry fruit laced with dried anise, incense and mineral hints. Reveals a flash of savory through the finish, though the fruit has the upper hand overall. Drink now through 2022. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 9,517 cases made.

90 points, James Molesworth, Wine Spectator (Mar 2018)

Blackcurrants and leaves, as well as violets. The palate has silky yet dense and smooth tannins wrapped in dark-plum flavors. Drink or hold.

90 points, James Suckling (Feb 2018)
