Monika and Thomas Bär, a noted gallery manager and a Swiss lawyer and banker, respectively, decided to settle in Gagliole, returning to Tuscany where they first met. Their rare cuvee called Pecchia is what brought me to Gagliole. It is among the great wines of Chianti with just a tiny 200 cases produced, but only in great vintages like 2015. Its fetching $150+ if you can find it. The real Gagliole find though is called Valletta. Its a Merlot and Sangiovese 50/50 blend from their Merlot vineyards in Castellina and Sangiovese vineyards in Panzano. Impeccable Super-Tuscan with the same grape blend as Castello Fonterutoli's Siepi, and certainly in its league.
