Naturally, we all know the name – the family – Ferraton. They've been masters of the Rhone Valley since the '40s. What began with a vigneron's son, another in his footsteps, tending vines, selling grapes locally, suddenly began to take shape as an estate. Michel Ferraton was a visionary, purchasing the family's first Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage and Saint-Joseph parcels – pristinely positioned – ever conscientious in his work throughout the vines. In 1998 everything would change again, when close family confidant, Michel Chapoutier partnered with the family. Bringing knowledge, unsurpassed in the region, and a passion for organics – later Biodynamics – Chapoutier raised the bar for his friends, his competitors, so that all Rhone wine lovers would benefit. Another wave of change arrived recently, with the extended family – Père & Fils – coming together from far and wide to exchange new ideas, new wine concepts, new vineyards – incredible tastes for all of us. Born from that, these unreal values. So easy to enjoy, so pure, so true to the name. "Smoking values," says Jeb. Case stackers, say I.

A terrific value is the 2015 Côtes du Rhône Samorens, which has lots of savory black cherry and blackcurrant characteristics to go with a medium to full-bodied, elegant style on the palate. Downright Provençal, with plenty of complexity and fine tannin, drink it over the coming 4-5 years.
