B-21 Top Recommendation
Unquestionably one of Burgundy's most historical producers, Bouchard delivered an incredible performance for 2015. In my recent tasting of this vintage, spanning their numerous holdings throughout the Côte and including both whites as well as reds, I was particularly pleased to discover a return to the very high quality I recall from superior vintages of the past. One of the "must haves" is the "Ancienne Cuvee Carnot," one of the very finest selections of the year for Bouchard. Bouchard's first acquisition, from 1775, this parcel is named for the family from whom the firm purchased this amazing plot. It will easily stand toe-to-toe with many Grand Crus of the year. Another winner is their Nuits Saint Georges Les Cailles from the southern sector of the village. Stunning, deftly proportioned, the wine benefits from roughly 50% whole cluster fermentation, an elegance and complexity that's amazing. Certainly don't miss Bouchard's 2015 Clos de Beze. From one of the oldest family-owned parcels within the Clos – the original "clos" built in the 7th century – this one will easily make 2050 (if you can wait that long). This is one of the finest sets I've offered in years; classics in every sense.
