Youthful purple. An array of ripe black and blue fruit aromas are accompanied by suggestions of licorice, pipe tobacco and mint. Sweet and penetrating on the palate, offering smoke-accented bitter cherry and cassis flavors that deepen and spread out slowly on the back half. Shows very good depth and no rough edges. Sneaky tannins come in late on a long, juicy finish that leaves a sweet chewing tobacco note behind.

Menzies is the name of Yalumba's Coonawarra estate, which is almost entirely devoted to Cabernet Sauvignon. Like most of the Yalumba wines, the oak levels have been pared back in recent vintages, allowing this wine's cassis fruit to to shine. Hints of tobacco, bay leaf and sage bring complexity, while the tannins are fine, adding a softly dusty feel to the long finish.

This is has a richer, softer and approachable feel to it. The oak is driving a little chocolate and vanilla through the palate. Tannins are supple and even. Power and confidence, loaded with cassis and cherry fruit.

Powerful wine with blackcurrant and mulberry fruit, but I'm not convinced about the oak usage - it's a bit rustic, perhaps amplified by the tannins. This is theoretically a very distinguished wine.

There's a terrific juiciness and vibrancy to the blackberry and plum flavors, with Earl Grey tea, licorice, cedar and floral notes lingering as the tannins turn firm on the finish. Drink now through 2030. 110 cases imported.
