A release of about 13,000 bottles, the San Fereolo 2013 Dogliani Superiore San Fereolo is showing beautifully right now and gives us a fascinating window onto the bottle longevity of a relatively near-term grape like Dolcetto. This expression reveals soft tar, spice and licorice softly woven into the dark flavors and rich texture that sits tight at the core. This was a cool and long growing season and the quality of the fruit is well preserved. Aged Dolcetto aromas, with some smoked meat and savory tobacco, might not appeal to everyone, but this wine is indeed unique and special at the end of the day.
