Not unlike the 2011, the 2013 is full throttle Minervois with wonderful aromatics and richness. Seamless combination of Grenache, Syrah and spice of Carignan.

I continue to love the wines of Claude Fonquerle and he makes the most of his terroir in Minervois. One of his top wines, the 2013 Minervois Giocoso is made from cement tank aged Grenache and oak aged Syrah and Carignan. Tasted as a barrel sample, it has terrific notes of black raspberry, fresh plum, pepper and crushed herbs. These flow to a medium to full-bodied, layered, and pure 2013 that has a solid mid-palate, fine tannin and excellent length. As normal, it should represent a superb value and have a decade of longevity.
