The 2013 Amarone della Valpolicella Case Vecie takes its time opening up in the glass. It tricks you with a more understated yet also meditative expression, pulling you close to find a remarkably pretty bouquet of blackberries, lavender and violets. This is pure elegance on the palate, coasting across a core of brisk acids while showing formidable density with its display of radiant black fruits, which gain further volume and depth toward the close. Cherries, sweet spices, mocha and dark inner florals linger through the dramatically long finale. There is amazing balance here; you can hardly feel the 2013’s youthful structure until the very end. What’s more, as good as this is today, I believe that the best is yet to come.
