Keep an eye on this husband/wife team, Patrick and Valerie Renaux. They are proving to be the serious power couple of Champagne. They do have the goods, that is, excellent expositions in the Grand Cru Ambonnay. Recall Ambonnay is the source of Krug's Clos d'Ambonnay, a small vineyard of less than two acres planted only to Pinot Noir that is the most expensive wine Krug offers. Team Renaux illustrate the richness and complexity of Ambonnay Pinot Noir with limited oak elevage. Trouble is, total production at Soutiran is less than 6,000 cases annually. I am very excited to introduce these Grand Cru beauties.

Disgorged in October 2018 with 4.6 grams per liter dosage, the 2012 Brut Grand Cru Millésimé is rich and muscular, offering up aromas of golden orchard fruit, toasted brioche, fresh pastry and honeycomb. Full-bodied, textural and fleshy, it's serious and structured, with fine concentration, racy acids and a chalky finish.
