I began using B21 about 2 years ago. Wish I had found them sooner. They represent about 70% to 80 % of my liquor buys. Only the odd things are purchased elsewhere. Once you use them you will be hooked. Inventory, professional staff, quick shipping and competative pricing are what I really appreciate. Try them, you have nothing to lose and much to gain.

2015 Vieux Chateau Certan (750ml)
Merlot from Pomerol, Bordeaux, France

100JD 100V 100JS 99WI 98WA

I was able to taste both the 2015 and 2016 grand vins, and these are heavenly, magical wines that could not be any better. Starting with the 2015 Vieux Château Certan, it shows the opulent, flamboyant style of the vintage to a T and reveals a saturated purple/ruby color, a monster bouquet of blackberries, tobacco, kirsch, dried spices, and loamy earth, full-bodied richness, sweet tannins, and a finish that won’t quit. A thrill a minute, wine doesn’t get any better, and I only wish every reader could taste this beauty. Drink it any time over the coming 30 years or more.

100 points, Jeb Dunnuck (Feb 2019)

The 2015 Vieux Château Certan is every bit as magnificent from bottle as it was from barrel. Rich, sumptuous and explosive in the glass, the 2015 is pure class. The flavors are deep and boldly sketched in this sumptuous, spectacularly ripe Pomerol. Inky blue/purplish fruit, spice, lavender, licorice and menthol all develop in the glass, but it is the wine's textural richness and intensity that stand out most. As good as the 2015 is today, it is going to need at least 15-20 years to be at its very best. Is there anything more I can ask of the 2015? No, there is not. This is a tremendous showing.

100 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous (Feb 2018)

The blackberries, blueberries, oyster shell and violets are so mesmerizing. Full-bodied, focused and deep. It takes you to another space and plane. Dried flowers and dark fruit. The tannins are perfectly crafted. Keeps going as you taste it. Drink in 2023 but why wait?

100 points, James Suckling (Feb 2018)

The 2015 VCC is a blend of 80% Merlot, 19% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Cabernet Sauvignon and it has a deep garnet color. It prances out with scents of flamboyant black cherry pie, plum preserves and blueberry compote, giving way to suggestions of truffles, smoked meats, Indian spices, and fragrant soil, with a touch of sandalwood and rose oil. Full-bodied, the palate is bursting with expressive, exotic spices and floral notes, framed by ripe, grainy tannins and wonderful tension, finishing very long and fragrant. The pH is about 3.7 - very impressive for such a warm year.

99 points, Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Independent (Nov 2022)

Blended of 80% Merlot, 19% Cabernet Franc and 1% Cabernet Sauvignon, the medium to deep garnet-purple colored 2015 Vieux Chateau Certan opens with profound notes of blueberry compote, dried mulberries, black forest cake, licorice, violets and garrigue with wafts of black truffles, sandalwood and rose hips. Medium to full-bodied, very earthy/savory and beautifully layered with very plush yet present tannins, it offers lovely freshness and a very long minerally finish. So very Pomerol!

2019 Chateau Taillefer (750ml)
Merlot from Pomerol, Bordeaux, France

93D 92V 92JS 92WI

Herbal nose with bramble aromas and delicate perfume to the red and black fruits. The palate is full of blue fruits with liquorice and dark chocolate nuances. I like its serious nature, it's bold and well defined. Smooth tannins support the fruit and do well to provide a large, muscular frame that compliments the sensuous core of dark fruit flavours. A blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc.

93 points, Georgina Hindle, Decanter (Jan 2022)

The 2019 Taillefer has evolved nicely since I tasted it from barrel. On the nose, vivacious brambly red fruit, Earl Grey, allspice and cedar aromas vie for attention. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, a liberal sprinkling of white pepper and a cohesive finish. This should age well in bottle.

92 points, Neal Martin, Vinous (Feb 2022)

Black cherries, dark plums, dried flowers, thyme and baking spices. Full-bodied with plush tannins. Rich and balanced with fresh acidity. Crunchy and spicy finish. 85% merlot and 15% cabernet franc. Drink from 2024.

92 points, James Suckling (Jan 2022)

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2019 Taillefer comes barreling out with notes of baked blackberries, stewed plums, and oolong tea plus hints of black olives and truffles. Full, rich, concentrated, and chewy, it has just enough freshness and a long, savory finish.

2020 Chateau Taillefer (750ml)
Merlot from Pomerol, Bordeaux, France
6

92JS 91V 91D

Fresh, spiced plums, cassis and a hint of mushroom and graphite to the nose. The medium-bodied palate shows good crunch and firm tannins. Pretty long, spicy and linear. 85% merlot and 15% cabernet franc. Drink now.

92 points, James Suckling (Jan 2023)

The 2020 Taillefer is forward and luscious, just as it was en primeur. Succulent dark cherry, plum, leather, licorice, tobacco and incense are nicely pushed forward. This mid-weight, supple Pomerol is a total charmer. Best of all, it will drink well with minimal cellaring.

91 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous (Feb 2023)

Highly perfumed and aromatic on the nose which is scented and inviting. Linear and focused, streamlined, still with depth and structure. There are layers here: cool freshness, mint and liquorice, rather than weight. Still feels a bit compact, like it's pent up, sleeping maybe, but lovely definition. Cool and graceful in a confident way. Striking.

2019 Vieux Chateau Certan (1.5L)
Merlot from Pomerol, Bordeaux, France

2019 Bordeaux seems like the vintage that almost wasn't. With years typically remembered for the harvest weather and the quality of the wines, 2019 was defined by the outbreak of the Covid pandemic in early Spring 2020 and the ensuing market volatility. Benefiting from our long-standing relationships in the region coupled with the favorable exchange rate, here is a unique opportunity to acquire an astounding range of the top Bordeaux blends of the 2019 vintage at exceptional pricing, delivered ex-Chateaux, many in ageworthy magnums and most in original wooden cases. All scoring 97 points and above from critics across the board, this is a special offering that will be hard to resist. Let's dig in.

With hot weather favoring the full development and ripening of Cabernet Sauvignon, Inside Bordeaux's Jane Anson calls the 98pt Left Bank beauty 2019 Montrose "a masterclass in the flavors and aromatics that you expect in a great Medoc wine" concluding, "Oh, this is good." Impeccably crafted vintage over vintage, the long-lived 99pt 2019 Pontet Canet will be "best after 2028," according to critic James Suckling, "but an absolute joy to taste now." Describing it as "the wine of the vintage in St. Julien if not all of the Medoc," Jeb Dunnuck calls the 100pt 2019 Ducru Beaucaillou "a heavenly beauty" that's "as good as it gets" with Roger Voss of the Wine Enthusiast calling the 98pt 2019 Figeac "another magnificent vintage" from this estate and Bordeaux expert Jane Anson describing the 99pt 2019 Cos D'Estournel as "powerful and enjoyable... with the always present Cos glamour." Aging potential abounds in this selection of 2019s and the Wine Enthusiast's Roger Voss notes that the 98pt 2019 Pichon Baron is "intense and set for a long-term future," while the Wine Spectator's James Molesworth declares it "A serious wine with a hint of bling."

Both earning 99 points, the 2019 Haut Bailly "builds and builds... through the endless finish" according to James Suckling while Decanter's Georgia Hindle describes the 2019 Troplong Mondot simply as "Incredible." Rating the 2019 Canon Saint Emilion a perfect 100pts, Jane Anson declared "Just so much complexity, depth, power, interest in the whole thing. This buzzes with life," while the Wine Advocate's William Kelley calls the 100pt 2019 Lafite Rothschild "one of the greatest wines produced in Bordeaux this year." Jeb Dunnuck calls the 98pt 2019 Leoville Barton "a great, great wine in the making" for Leoville fans not to miss and Vinous critic Neal Martin declares the 99pt 2019 Palmer "Quintessential." The 100pt Vieux Chateau Certan is one of the wines of the vintage for the Wine Advocate's William Kelley, with Margaux's 97pt 2019 Giscours structured to "age beautifully for years to come" according to James Suckling, also a superb value.

Now for the big finish! The 100pt 2019 La Mission Haut Brion "is one of the few 2019s that will make your eyes roll back in your head" according to Jeb Dunnuck (we think that's good) while William Kelley of the Wine Advocate declares it "possesses even greater potential" than its sibling Haut-Brion. Jane Anson calls the 98pt 2019 Mouton Rothschild "pure Mouton" adding, "you can’t miss it" (Mouton fans know exactly what she means) while the Wine Spectator's James Molesworth notes its "extremely lengthy finish." And finally garnering the top ratings from all critics, the 100pt 2019 Chateau Margaux is a "brilliant Bordeaux" according to the Wine Advocate that James Suckling sums up simply as "Ethereal." There are only exceptional choices here - whether putting together a mixed case or two or choosing favorites to stash away, you won't be disappointed. Echoing the advice given for plunging into the deep end of the pool for the first time, it's simple – take a deep breath and dive in. It's safe to say there's some seriously enjoyable Bordeaux in your future.

100WA 99JS #65 Top 100 99WI 98JD 98V

One of the wines of the vintage, the 2019 Vieux Château Certan unfurls in the glass with a striking bouquet of cassis and cherries mingled with notions of violets, loamy soil, sweet spices and incense. Full-bodied, ample and layered, it's seamless and enveloping, with a fleshy core of beautifully vibrant fruit, lively acids and ripe, powdery tannins. Concluding with a long, resonant finish, this perfumed, sensual Vieux Château Certan is a remarkable achievement from Alexandre and Guillaume Thienpont.

100 points, William Kelley, Wine Advocate (Apr 2022)

Subtle and complex with blackberries, violets, lilacs, roses and hints of ink. So floral, yet subtle on the nose. Full-bodied with incredible polish and beauty, the silky tannins running the length of the wine and going on and on. It builds with sheer elegance and structure. A blend of 78% merlot, 15% cabernet franc and 7% cabernet sauvignon. Drink after 2028, but already a joy to taste.

99 points, James Suckling (Mar 2022)

#65 - James Suckling Top 100 of 2022

The 2019 Vieux Chateau Certain is a blend of 78% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, and 7% Cabernet Sauvignon. Deep garnet-purple in color, it charges out of the glass with vibrant black and blue fruits - blackberry preserves, ripe plums, and juicy blueberries - with touches of kirsch, Sichuan pepper, violets, licorice, and cumin seed. Full bodied, rich, and decadent in the mouth, the palate has a fantastic line of freshness and mind-blowingly ripe, complex tannins (thanks to the 3 varieties this year) supporting the very tightly wound layers, finishing with incredible length and lots of floral and mineral fireworks.

99 points, Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Independent (Apr 2022)

A wine I wasn't able to taste from barrel, the 2019 Vieux Château Certan is an awesome expression of Merlot that's as singular as they come. Revealing a deep purple hue as well as a prodigious, deep, layered bouquet of blackcurrants, black cherries, tobacco leaf, cedar pencil, and sappy spring flowers, it hits the palate with a full-bodied, multi-dimensional texture, a great mid-palate, no hard edges, perfectly integrated acidity, and a blockbuster of a finish. It shows the more ethereal, nuanced, elegant style of the vintage, both in its aromatics as well as on the palate, but it has classic Vieux Château Certan opulence and power. This heavenly wine is clearly in the same ballpark as the 2015, 2016, and 2018 and will probably merit a triple-digit rating at maturity. A decade of cellaring is advised, and it should be a 40-, 50-, if not 60-year wine.

98+ points, Jeb Dunnuck (Apr 2022)

The 2019 Vieux Château Certan is even better from bottle than it was from barrel. It is very clearly one of the highlights on the Right Bank. Soaring aromatics are immediately captivating. There is an exoticism in the 2019 that I saw from barrel that is evident in the bottled wine, but today, I see more balance and harmony. Crème de cassis, licorice, lavender, spice and rose petal blend into a core of red/purplish berry fruit. All the elements are so well balanced. The Grand Vin is a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc, but the blend also includes one lot of young vine Cabernet Sauvignon that was added for its aromatic presence. That decision paid off in spades, as the 2019 is truly magical.

2019 Chateau Clinet (750ml)
Merlot from Pomerol, Bordeaux, France
6

98JD 97WA

The 2019 Château Clinet is brilliant stuff and another classic Pomerol from the talented Ronan Laborde. Deep purple-hued, with awesome notes of crème de cassis, mulberries, tobacco leaf, chocolate, and damp earth, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a round, seamless mouthfeel, and gorgeous tannins. It delivers that rare mix of elegance and sexiness that only Pomerol can. It needed plenty of air to show at its best and needs a good 4-6 years of bottle age, but it's going to evolve for 20-25 years or more. I love everything about this wine, and it's certainly in the same ballpark as the 2015, 2016, and 2018. And it remains incredibly well-priced given the quality. Don’t miss it.

98 points, Jeb Dunnuck (Apr 2022)

The 2019 Clinet is showing beautifully in bottle, wafting from the glass with aromas of plums, cherries and berries mingled with hints of violets, licorice, subtle spices and smoke. Full-bodied, sensual and velvety, it's seamless and vibrant, with lively acids, ripe tannins and a long, resonant finish. This precise, concentrated wine is the finest young Clinet I've ever tasted, and it exemplifies the tremendous progress that Ronan Laborde has made at this estate over the last decade.

2023 Chateau La Conseillante (750ml)
Merlot from Pomerol, Bordeaux, France
6

100WA 98JS 98D

Just as it was from cask, the 2023 La Conseillante is one of the vintage's most exciting wines in bottle. Offering up lavish aromas of ripe blackberries and mulberries mingled with hints of violets and mint, it's medium- to full-bodied, supple and fleshy, with an ample core of fruit, beautifully refined tannins and a long, perfumed finish. Readers who own both the deeper-pitched, elegantly muscular 2022 and the utterly charming, hedonistic 2023 will enjoy comparing and contrasting the two over the decades to come. The 2023 is a blend of 88% Merlot and 12% Cabernet Franc, some 30% of which is maturing in amphorae. Harvest began on September 7, lasting until October 2, block by block.

100 points, William Kelley, Wine Advocate (Apr 2026)

Extremely perfumed, with aromas of violets, sandalwood, licorice dark roses and a black cherry undertone. Medium-bodied with ultra-fine tannins that deliver superb length and balance. Wonderfully vivid texture and palate with electric length. Seamless, captivating and rather ethereal. Tangy. Reminds me of the gorgeous 1990. 88% merlot and 12% cabernet franc. Best after 2029.

98 points, James Suckling (Dec 2025)

Beautiful blackcurrant and violet nose, soft, clean and fragrant. Smooth, juicy, almost racy with such energy and focus. Plush and complex, very Pomerol, with great length and dark fruit, herbs and gentle spices. It evolves in the glass, chalky and fleshy, but clean and cool, almost sweet but somehow not at the same time. Savoury minerality on the finish leaves you wanting to come straight back for more. Purity, classicism and elegant expression.

2023 Vieux Chateau Certan (750ml)
Merlot from Pomerol, Bordeaux, France

100JS 99D 98V

Perfect aromas of ripe, pristine blueberries, subtle black olives, raspberries, violets, minerals, lavender and sandalwood. The finesse, depth and grace are mesmerizing. It's medium-bodied with incredible energy and length. A masterpiece in subtly. Can't get better than this. 82% merlot and 18% cabernet franc. Lovely to drink now, but it will age beautifully. Wait until 2030.

100 points, James Suckling (Dec 2025)

Deep and heady aromatics, so perfumed with floral blackcurrant at the fore. Round and filling, tannins upfront and present, cushioning, pillowy and fleshy. This is full and immediate, packed with intensity and purpose. Great depth of fruit - layers of dark bramble berries - but it’s the tannins and overall sensation that is just amazing, yet there’s still an edge of precision and sharpness that defines the finish. A real benchmark. A wonderful wine. Concentrated, fresh, very Pomerol. No Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend this year.

99 points, Georgina Hindle, Decanter (Jan 2026)

The 2023 Vieux Château Certan is wonderfully complex and dynamic in the glass. The layers here are just remarkable. That sort of dimension is one of the qualities that was hard to come by in 2023. Dark blue-toned fruit, lavender, scorched earth, new leather and menthol soar, lending tons of vertical, explosive energy. Floral and savory overtones develop with air, adding further shades of nuance. What a gorgeous and complete wine this is.
