Of the three Diamond Creek wines, Gravelly Meadow is the earthiest in 2001, an essence of place expressed in gritty power. The wine is black and tough, the flavors extremely long. The tannins feel briney in their austerity, the texture loamy to contrast them and fill them out. What black fruit is there remains in service to the structure, needing a decade or more to evolve.
