Saturated deep red. Superripe, liqueur-like nose hints at dried flowers and mocha. Huge, velvety and quite powerful, but still youthfully unevolved. Hints of brown spices and dried flowers. Best today on the explosively long finish, which features strong but well-buffered tannins. A great '98.

The 1998 Barolo Rocche dell'Annunziata will be an undeniable show-stopper. An exquisite combination of black fruits, coffee, smoke, new oak, licorice, and incense is found in this medium to full-bodied, ripe, elegant, pure Barolo. Explosive aromatics are followed by equally riveting flavors as well as a 50-second finish. The tannin is sweet and beautifully integrated. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2018.

Seductive and multilayered with cinnamon and fruit aromas with hints of figs. Full-bodied, with silky tannins and a long aftertaste of dates and figs. Slightly more in the midpalate would make it even better, but very pretty indeed. Best after 2007. 250 cases made.
