A big, very ripe, overdone wine--but a delicious one. Seriously good dark-ruby color. Lots of raspberry and prune character on the nose. Full-bodied, with flavors verging on dried raisin, and toast and jam character on the aftertaste.--1989 Bordeaux horizontal. Best after 2000.

The 1989 Lafon-Rochet is a more tannic and brawny wine. Dark ruby, with an intense bouquet of overripe cassis, this chewy, well-endowed, full-bodied wine may be reminiscent of the excellent 1970. It is a traditionally made, surprisingly big wine. Anticipated maturity: 1996-2015.
