Uncle Nearest 1884 Small Batch Whiskey (750ml)

From Tennessee

Golden amber color. Aromas and flavors of cherry chapstick, red cherry, violets, croissant, rose water, and charred cedar with a silky, bright, dry medium body and a warming, medium-long finish with nuances of cherry chapstick and raspberry, honeycomb, marzipan and winter mint, sweet corn, and apple laffy taffy. A rich and round Whiskey with bushels of cherry flavor.

88 points, Beverage Testing Institute (Jul 2022)

1884 references the final year Nathan “Nearest” Green, the former slave now known as the first African-American distiller, made whiskey before retiring. A nose of blossom honey, fresh cherries, banana cream pie, licorice, and spice is followed by a palate that's delicate and creamy, with notes of vanilla frosting, orange, peanuts, marshmallow, and light pepper spice. Tobacco leaf on the finish, with cherry, oak, and understated spice. A sturdy, finessed exemplar of Tennessee style.

88 points, David Fleming, Whisky Advocate (Winter 2019)
