Based in Miahuatlán village in Oaxaca, Tío Victor is best known for and most often associated with the Mezcaloteca and Mal Bien labels, but this single-batch expression selected and bottled by ImpEx is truly the master at his very best. Remarkably defined and pure for a single distillation, it's a true thing of beauty. Produced on a copper alembic still and aged in glass for one year, the Tobala Capon is "a masterpiece of complexity, drive, and intensity, all judged to a perfect degree by the maestro," as noted by B-21 spirits buyer Andrew Kitz.
While not exactly rare on the mezcal scene, the a. potatorum varietal is nonetheless highly sought-after for its singular profile, especially when cultivated and harvested by the capon method, which produces something in a class all its own.
