Home to names like Hampden Estate and Long Pond, Trelawney Parish is ground zero for many hardcore Jamaican rum fanatics. While Hampden's reputation extends beyond the most committed insider's circles, Long Pond tends to fly under the radar in the wider market. This single cask is a classic example of Long Pond’s famed ITP marque. Showcasing the distillery’s beloved pot-still profile that has produced many thrilling casks on the independent market throughout the years, it’s a grand slam for fans of top-tier, aged Jamaican rum. Pouring a lovely medium amber color with a reddish tint in the center and at the edges, it leads with a nose of super-ripe tropical fruit and soft vanilla, the esters featuring prominently right out of the gate with little to no heat. A very full palate packed with warming spices and mulled citrus does well with a few drops of water, opening up extra levels intrigue in flavors of cinnamon stick, hard candy, and spiced orange peel. The aromatics likewise expand to include brown cane sugar, tropical fruit marmalade, Bing cherry, and raspberry coulis, all playing against subtle industrial notes and old mahogany furniture. The finish is every bit as luxurious as you’d expect, perfectly balanced and warm with notes of rich red fruit, burnt sugar, and anisette as a fascinating coda. This is quite simply a stunning representation of a treasured Jamaican rum style that’s impossible not to fall in love with.
