It tees off with manuka honey, toasted English muffin, vanilla seed, toasted coconut, and baking spice aromas. It goes down the hole smoothly, with creamy flavors around a core of vanilla intensity plus cream soda, dried banana, and green fruits, gliding through honey, butterscotch sauce, and caramel.

Fragrant stone fruits fill the nose: sliced white peaches, canned peaches, and apricots. Stay awhile, and earthier notes of sweet peat, fresh flowers, and cedar plank emerge. The palate is smooth, and though it’s light there is an incredible creamy texture that’s furthered by candied orange, applesauce, and warm apple crisp. The finish has divine depth, and is rich with vanilla frozen custard and more of those initial stone fruit flavors.

This golden Speyside single malt was aged a full 15 years in ex-Bourbon barrels. The result is a honeyed aroma that mixes fresh apple and pear with a floral hint. The palate opens softly at first, with plenty of fruit and a light veil of peat smoke. Adding water brings more juicy pear, marmalade and vanilla to the forefront, finishing with lingering smoke and spice.

Bright, fresh, and sweet on the nose, with green apple, melon, sugared lemon slice, almond cream, vanilla, and a hay field in the sun. The proof gives this ample body and allows flavors of fizzy lemon, fresh ginger, orange scone, caramel-dipped apple, honeysuckle, and toasted coconut to spread out over a layer of savory oak. It's not quick to move on, lingering with a rounded finish of white pepper, fresh ginger, lemon oil, and oak.

Intriguing aromas of raisin bran muffin, suede, saddle soap, and oily roasted nuts have a faint meaty quality with a supple, dryish medium-to-full body and and a spicy, mossy, peppery and slightly medicinal iodine finish with penetrating length. Excellent vibrancy and unique range of flavors make this a true blend of all of the Scotch regions.

Inhale deeply and this bestows a sense of serenity; morning dew on clipped lawns strewn with spent fireworks and strands of honey mingled with subtle, elegant smoke. Blender Maureen Robinson’s light, well-balanced creation ushers in gentle honey and growing sweetness, before billowing puffs of smoke grow dominant. Charred peaks of a lemon meringue pie, iced coffee, and milk chocolate follow, leaving a catch of smoke in the aftertaste. Quite a charmer.

Unencumbered by an age statement, master whisky maker Gordon Motion was free to paint Batch 4 with flavor in mind, using a vivid palette of sherry-seasoned European and American oak, bourbon, and refill casks, then in a twist, adding port casks for a daring new streak of flavor. In the distillery’s 225th year, Motion’s stellar accomplishment integrates expressive notes of pink grapefruit and exotic spices within a deep well of citrus, dark chocolate, and heathery peat smoke.

Attractive aroma of toasted grain, delicately smoky peat, dried fruits, and spices follow through on silky entry to a dryish medium-to-full body with very good depth and notes of buttery praline and roasted spiced nuts. Finishes with a gentle fruit, buttercream, anise, and mossy river stone accented fade. A delicious and masterfully balanced blend.

Light gold, with good intensity and a more noticeable malty note than is common with this distillery, as well as touches of daffodil and dried honeycomb. The wood influence appears minimal to start with, but more vanilla creeps through in time; water brings out almond milk. Opens into clementine peel, pomelo, then cooked dessert apple. The palate is clean and forward; even slightly hot when neat. Remarkably assertive for a 25 year old.
