Glenmorangie The Original 10yr Single Malt Scotch Gift Set (750ml)
From Tain, Highlands, Scotland

This sparkling straw-colored whisky has a delicate nose, with some citrus notes and hints of wildflowers and fresh heather. The body is medium and buttery, and the palate holds light malty notes, hints of honey, tobacco, and just a mere suggestion of peat. There are also some subtle fruits evident here (melons?) and just a touch of lemon zest. The finish is far deeper than the palate suggests it might be, leaving a rounder, long, sweet/smoky taste alongside some masculine tobacco notes.

Highland Park 15yr FIRE Edition Single Malt Scotch (750ml)
From Kirkwall, Islands, Scotland

Fire is the first Highland Park expression to be fully matured in “refill port wine-seasoned casks” and it carries a 15 year age statement. Very fruity on the nose—raspberries and prunes —plus lightly-smoked pineapple and vanilla. More smoky, spicy fruit features on the palate, with a light sprinkling of cinnamon. The peat dries to leave ashy licorice and black pepper in a lingering finish. The port is pleasingly discreet. (4,938 bottles for the U.S.)

Glenfiddich Project XX Single Malt Whisky (750ml)
From Dufftown, Speyside, Scotland

One of two initial releases in Glenfiddich’s Experimental Series, this is a non-chill filtered expression. A vatting of twenty casks, including first-fill bourbon, sherry butts, and port pipes. The nose is fragrant and faintly oriental, with vanilla, Jaffa oranges, and apricots. The palate is full and sweet, with oranges and lemons, fudge, plump sultanas, milk chocolate, and tangy spices. Drying steadily to fruity oakiness in the relatively lengthy finish.

Glenmorangie Extremely Rare 18yr Single Malt Scotch (750ml)
From Tain, Highlands, Scotland

Some of the Scotch is finished in Oloroso Sherry casks, which accounts for the honey and dried fruit fragrance. The spirit has a smooth, soft feel and a touch of juicy sweetness. Look for caramel and vanilla and rather aggressive oakiness, finishing with orange peel. Best with some time to open up.

Amber and bright in the glass, this 18-year-old blended whisky melds vanilla, cigar wrapper and chamomile tea notes with nutmeg and cinnamon spice, plus a delicate puff of sweet smoke. Feels light and silky, finishes long and gently.

Wine Enthusiast Top 50 Spirits of 2014

An essay in balance on both the aroma and palate. Silky layers of delicate sweetness (honeyed vanilla, caramel, light toffee) permeate through clean, delicate fruit (citrus, peach, currant), and subtle, complex dried spice. Clean finish, with a hint of dark chocolate. A very versatile, very drinkable blend which suits most moods and occasions. Indeed, a benchmark blended scotch.

The Dimple Pinch 15yr Blended Scotch (750ml)
From Markinch, Lowlands, Scotland

Amber/orange color. The assertive, aldehydic, dry nose offers hints of hay, cooked rice, corn husk, iodine and toasted cereal. Once on the palate, voluptuous tastes of smoke, iodine, and soft peat come together in a graceful, well-coordinated dance of flavor. It ends rather smokily with a sweet, toffee tail. No question but that the 15 years of aging really makes the difference in this medium- to full-bodied Scotch, as the various components complement each other beautifully. A prime example of the glories of blending.
