Penfolds, the benchmark of all that is great wine in Australia. Iconic Grange, 707 or 389, these are reference standard wines. The Penfolds Ports fly under the radar but are worth a visit.
The name goes back over a century when a cask of Tawny was held back exclusively for the Penfold family use. The age of the oldest wine, the blend dated back to the Grandfather, so the name. The average age of the blend exceeds twenty years, produced from Mourvedre, Shiraz, Cabernet and Grenache and of course a touch of Aussie spirits. Raisin, toffee, walnut and vanilla, it is drinking beautifully, complex and long and a winner for all generations.
