It's quite rare to find good grower Champagne at this price, but this is convincing. Based on Pinot Noir from the grand cru village of Verzenay, it's persistent, pure and bright, with tangy yellow apple, clementine and apricot fruit, and a gentle, chalky firmness. Precise and pure; excellent value.

The NV Brut Observation Grand Cru is a blend of 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay from Verzenay. The base wines were partly fermented in oak and partly underwent malolactic fermentation. The blend contains 26% reserve wines, also partially aged in oak. A savory touch, distantly reminiscent of fennel seed, adds spice to the creamy, fresh nose. The palate is beautifully taut and entirely strait-laced, yet possesses the body, bearing and solidity of Pinot Noir. Everything is presented on a light but concentrated body that is serene, understated and elegant. Dosage is 6.5 grams per liter. Disgorged: April 2025.
