Another superb wine from Cédric Bouchard, the NV RDJ No. 3, unfurls in the glass with a deep, flamboyant bouquet of orange zest, sweet apricot, brioche and lychee, mingling with notes of ripe pear, dried flowers and a faint hint of cacao nib. Full-bodied and multidimensional, it is textural and enveloping, displaying impressive concentration and a mouth-filling core that glides seamlessly across the palate. The wine’s succulent yet racy profile is animated by an ultra-refined, pinpoint mousse, culminating in a long, resonant, orange-inflected finish.

The 2020 Blanc RDJ.N.03 is the latest in the series of experimental Champagnes from Cédric Bouchard. As always, Bouchard intentionally does not divulge any information on this wine, as he wants tasters to approach it without any preconceived notions. In the glass, the RDJ.N.03 is floral, airy and lifted. White flowers, mint and white pepper lend notable aromatic presence. If I had to guess, I would say this is a Blanc de Noirs from Creux d'Enfer as the two wines bear some similarities, especially texturally. Disgorged: April 2024.
