From one of Champagne’s largest and most historic houses, this superb deal on the 95 pt. G.H. Mumm Grand Cordon Brut Rose offers a terrific opportunity to pop the cork more often, its fragrant elegant fruit beautifully balanced by crisp acidity on a tantalizing, fine beaded mousse and priced for stocking up by the case to enjoy often and without hesitation.

Founded by German winemaker brothers from the Rhine Valley in 1827, G.H. Mumm’s Grand Cordon Rose is adorned with its trademark red sash resembling the Grand Cross of the French Legion of Honor, its highest civilian award, the Cordon Rouge or “red ribbon” representing excellence and now a signature of the house. Boasting nearly 218 hectares of estate vineyards which include 160 hectares classified as Grand or 1er Cru, the G.H. Mumm Grand Cordon Rose is sourced from 120 different Crus, a blend of mostly Pinot Noir from the Montagne de Reims, with smaller amounts of Chardonnay from Cramant and Avize and Pinot Meunier from the Cote des Blancs and the Vallee de la Marne. Pressing the grapes of each vineyard onsite since it began acquiring parcels in 1840, G.H. Mumm vinified each grape variety and cru separately, blending in additional Pinot Noir reserve wine to enhance the red fruit flavors and adding a relatively low dosage of 6 grams of sugar to deliver a pleasing dry finish hinting of stony minerality.

Aged in the bottle for two years, the appealing 95 pt. G.H. Mumm Grand Cordon Brut Rose balances lively intense aromas and flavorful bright fruit with creamy complexity on a persistent stream of rising bubbles, bargain priced to be a spontaneous grab from the cooler and worthy of having a few extra cases on hand to pour freely for fellow lovers of Champagne and sparkling wine, no special occasion required.

Medium steely amber color. Aromas and flavors of grilled nectarine, raspberry and strawberry, red apple and blood orange, and bread dough with a round, finely carbonated, dryish medium body and a very long finish with notes of red apple, raspberry, and orange, dried flowers, and baked apricot turnover. Simply delicious, and loaded with vibrant red fruit and balanced with refreshing citrus; a prudent host should have one of these chilled at all times for any unexpected occasion that might arise.
