Roland Tissier is one of those hidden-gem domaines that just seems to do everything right yet stays under most radars of critics and even clued-in cognoscenti. The third generation domaine is based just outside Sancerre proper and has plantings on some of the rarest soil types in the appellation. The flagship Sancerre Blanc is a brilliant expression that just notched a whopping 95 points from Jeb Dunnuck.
"It's another absolutely gorgeous wine from this estate." - Jeb Dunnuck
The wine hails from vines on all three soil types of the estate – Griottes, Caillottes, (Oxfordian limestone) and Silex (flint) – which are all vinified separately and blended to express their distinct characters in the final wine. We were fortunate to meet with Florent Tissier in February this year at Wine Paris, and he graciously poured us a sample of each component part from the outstanding 2025 vintage, and simply put, we were dazzled. From the fruit-forward charm of the Griottes to the high-toned florality of the Caillottes to the vivid, smoky minerality of the Silex, it was clear that this was going to be a truly stunning final wine, and Dunnuck's recent review confirms it. In a stroke of real fortune, we worked out a domaine-direct relationship that brings this absolutely jaw-dropping QPR stunner to you, which is increasingly rare for your average Sancerre these days, let alone one with the show stopping pedigree of Tissier's 2025. |
