What a release from a warm vintage. Aromas of lemon confit, white flowers, nectarines and flint with white peaches and a touch of spice and cookies. The medium-bodied palate is textural and generous yet balanced with fresh acidity and some structure from phenolic grip. Wild-fermented in old barriques. Great value. Drink or hold. Screw cap.

The 2024 Chardonnay Filius is bright and youthful in style, yet holds interest with melon and citrus tones lifted by subtle gunflint and spicy oak. The palate is mid weight with a creamy texture, generous nutty complexity and excellent composure, finishing with admirable subtlety. Brilliant value and release for this label.

A young, fruity, toasty Chardy from a highly regarded producer in Australia's west; lemon balm, melon and grapefruit notes mingle with saltier, flintier, toastier nuances. There's a slippery feel in the mouth with a delicate line of acidity; those barrel and lees influences padding out the bright fruit.

Even in warmer vintages, there’s still restraint with Vasse Felix wines. Filius has some fleshy stone fruit in the mix but also requisite citrus, ginger spice and some struck match. No new oak here, so this is a vibrant representation of fruit, although there’s a lick of lees and, thus, a savouriness throughout. Yup. Very appealing.
