Switch off your phone and don’t look at your watch. When you drink this, time will stand still. The very cool nose with a striking aroma of tarragon, hardly a classic riesling scent, is followed by incredibly concentrated peach and herb flavors on the supersilky, medium-bodied palate. Low acidity for this grape, but that simply means a unique creaminess in the long, elegant finish. Sustainable. Vegan. Drinkable now but best from 2027.

The 2024 Riesling Achleiten Smaragd, from the western slope, is tender on the nose, allowing just a touch of tangerine peel to escape. The palate is taut and elongated, concentrated. Crystalline and yet edged with tangerine oil, it plunges deeper and seems to set itself into the palate with its freshness. There is an extra dimension here that goes deeper.
