Early indications are that the 2024 Mosel vintage is a truly great campaign. As Mosel Fine Wines declared, "2024 yielded stunningly light-footed wines with a rarely seen combination of inner density and precision ... a must-go-to vintage for lovers of classic and ethereal Mosel lightness and elegance!" The conditions overall favored the Kabinett wines, and we're thrilled to introduce a new estate to the B-21 fold with the epic, 98-point 2024 Günther Steinmetz Wintricher Gaierslay Kabinett.
"...a breathtakingly complex wine. Super-refined and incredibly long." - Stuart Piggott, JamesSuckling.com
Situated just above the famed Ohligsberg vineyard, arguably the finest in the village of Wintrich, the Gaierslay vineyard shares most of the features of its neighbor, including blue and grey slate soils interspersed with quartz, endowing the wines with a brilliant push-pull of ripe fruit and gentle minerality. Stefan Steinmetz is quickly making a name for himself as the most talented exponent of this stretch of the Mosel, and the 2024 Gaierslay Kabinett proves his mettle with its absolutely stunning character, with lush fruit tones "perfectly married to dazzling slatey acidity." Anne Krebiehl of Vinous was also spellbound by its "quintessential Kabinett style" to the tune of 97 points. An off-dry style with a perfect combination of acid and residual sugar, it "leaves no doubt that you have tasted something absolutely authentic." For Riesling fans and collectors, the world's most famous region delivers the goods again in a mind-boggling combination of class and value. |
