We tasted this first just before the Chassagne-Montrachet Macherelles, then again just before the Puligny-Montrachet Champ Gain, as François likes to compare the latter with this vineyard as they are immediate neighbours. And, as usual, I preferred the St-Aubin 1er Cru to both the Macherelles and Champ Gain. Clear pale lemon yellow. An incisive chiselled nose, described as white stone smokiness by François, then riper fruit soars above, but very nicely in balance. A long clear flowing finish. An excellent example with an exciting finish, dancing yet very well poised. Drink from 2029-2034. Tasted Oct 2025.
93-95 points, Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy (Dec 2025)
A pungent nose of reduction and wood push the underlying fruit to the background. There is better volume and power to the slightly bigger, if less obviously stony, flavors that display excellent length on the balanced and mildly firmer finish that could again use better depth.
