50% whole bunches with the main stem removed. 100% new wood. Fine mid purple, a lively come-hither sort of nose with an array of red fruit, medium-bodied at first then gaining density behind even as the strawberries take on a darker hue. A little spice from the whole bunches, but finishes just slightly on the sombre side. Drink from 2030-2038. Tasted Nov 2024.

The 2023 Charmes-Chambertin Aux Charmes Grand Cru includes 60% whole cluster this year with the main part of the stem removed. This is perfumed and beautifully defined on the nose: red fruit mixes with wild hedgerow and light forest floor scents. The palate is medium-bodied with a little creaminess on the entry, fine acidity and touches of licorice. The harvest's warmth perhaps shapes the finish, and there is black pepper on the aftertaste. This has good potential but certainly leans toward the more concentrated side.

A discreet application of wood also sets off distinctly earthy aromas of both red and dark berries along with pretty floral nuances. The very generous, even plush, medium-bodied flavors also reflect evident power on the compact, firm and built-to-age finale.
