The 2023 Riesling Grand Cru Rangen Clos Saint-Théobald is deep, refined and perfectly ripe on the complex, smoky and saline nose that shows the great and rocky terroir of the Rangen. On the palate, this is a full-bodied, rich and quite tannic yet also savory Riesling with round and lush but elegant fruit that is carried by saline and even filigreed, highly stimulating acidity. The finish is long and intense, well structured and persistently saline. 13.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in Colmar, November 2024.

The 2023 Riesling Rangen Clos Saint Théobald Grand Cru is from vines that are close to 50 years old in the mid-slope of the Rangen. The nose is really shy—even swirling does not make it want to open up. The palate is beautifully fluid, ripe, smooth and yet absolutely contoured, like a marble speeding along a track, solid, contained and yet so agile. Its purity, poise and citric promise are just wonderful. Of course, the 2023 needs time, but if nothing else in the world is certain, you know that this will blossom. (Bone-dry)
