The 2023 Chardonnay Convicciones from Paraje La Cautiva in Gualtallary, Uco Valley, was aged for two years in foudres. It offers aromas of wild herbs, huacatay, acacia, delicate floral notes, green apple and a hint of pear. Intense, fresh, concentrated and chalky, it delivers impressive tension and depth. This is a Chardonnay that nods to Chablis, yet with the concentration and sunshine of Gualtallary. This is in a different league for expressive, high-powered Chardonnay from Argentina.

This wine has a subtle, austere nose of limes and popcorn. The palate is precise and persistent, with a lovely, refined texture. More Chablis than Beaune in style, but Argentinian nonetheless. It’s focused, textured and elegantly restrained. Sourced from a vineyard planted at 1,600 meters in Gualtallary. This ferments and ages in a large foudre. Drink now.

Produced from estate vines at Finca La Cautiva, the 2023 Convicciones follows the typical white winemaking methods of Michelini i Mufatto, with fermentation and 24-month maturation in 1,000-liter foudre. It presents the distinctly minty, fresh and alpine aromatic signature that often characterizes this upper section of Gualtallary, introducing a beautifully textured palate that marries a broad, silken mouthfeel with honeyed depth and energizing elasticity. The finish snaps into a markedly more taut, mineral-inflected form, reverberating with mouthwatering acidity and a pure, deep core of mineral-driven textures. This is already drinking quite well, and I imagine it will continue to do so through its 10th birthday.
