Massolino’s Langhe Nebbiolo is a classic representation of the house style and the elegant side of the varietal. It pours a gorgeous, translucent ruby color with an aromatic profile to match. Beautiful crushed strawberries and raspberries are accented by a perfumed red floral tone that provides real lift. There’s just a faint touch of the familiar tar character, as this is very much centered on the fruit/floral end of the spectrum. The palate is a bit tight out the gate, but it opens up quickly with bright red fruits that mirror the nose. The lip-smacking, sappy mid-palate comes on with precise balance, leading to a firm, mineral finish, all backed up by a fresh, refined tannic grip. It’s very approachable now, but it’ll also repay a few years in the cellar.

Made mostly from young vines, this brings together fruit from vineyards with diverse altitudes and soil throughout the Langhe, yet it is a very harmonious whole. Gorgeous scents of rose and cherry blossom infuse the dark raspberry backdrop. The equally perfumed and elegantly weighted palate is redolent of pure red berry coulis. Fine, silky tannins are woven in seamlessly. Luscious acidity makes the mouth water. So easy yet so satisfying to drink.

The 2023 Langhe Nebbiolo is terrific. Aromatic and medium-bodied, the Langhe Nebbiolo is a fabulous entry-level wine in this range. Crushed flowers, cedar, pipe tobacco and sweet dried cherry are all nicely lifted in the glass. What a total delight. 90 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous (Jan 2026) Pretty cherry, raspberry, floral and menthol flavors, plus a touch of tar, are aligned with a firm structure. This red is balanced, if still a little tight on the finish.
