A very dense but even purple. Rich raspberry fruit, nothing cooked here, a few fine-grained tannins, perhaps Boivin wins in nobility but this is a very attractively balanced deep red wine. Has advanced well since last year, I suspect. This vineyard obtains phenolic ripeness at the same time as the Charmes-Chambertin, early in the piece. Drink from 2028-2034. Tasted Nov 2025.

The domaine’s vines in Clos de Jeu are also centenarians, which I again reported previously as more than seventy years of age, but not fully one hundred. This is really an exceptional bottle of Marsannay in the making, delivering a deep and sappy aromatic constellation of black cherries, cassis, grilled meats, a complex base of dark soil tones, woodsmoke and spicy new oak. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, complex and shows excellent depth of sappy black fruit at the core, with good soil signature and grip, ripe tannins and a long, well balanced and promising finish. This is every bit as fine as the les Boivins in 2023.

The 2023 Marsannay Clos de Jeu, which has a scattering of century-old vines, has a deep and complex bouquet with black plum and bilberry scents and light marine influences coming forth. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red berry fruit, very well balanced and superb backbone with plenty of weight on the finish. This should age with style and grace.

A mentholated top note is present on the liqueur-like nose of poached plum, black cherry and discreetly earthy nose. The middle weight flavors are not as dense as those of the Boivin but they're finer and more mineral-driven on the balanced, long and slightly rustic finish. This is quite good for what it is but it would be fair to say that this is robust Marsannay that's going to require at least some cellaring. *Outstanding*
