Old vines that need hand and horse management on a very steep slope with morcellated mini plots, comprising around 0.20ha overall. Green and yellow in colour, pale primrose. Much more weight, even a little bacon fat on the nose. Broad shoulders here yet with the usual Saumaize precision. Significant extra at the back, this could go with red meat as well as white. Tightly wound at the finish, braised fennel as well as baked apple, long and impressive. *Five Stars*

To my knowledge, this is the only lieux à dit owned by the Saumaize family that was included in the rankings of premier crus. It is interesting to me, as this has never been my absolute favorite of their single vineyard bottlings. In any case, the 2023 version is quite lovely, offering up an aromatic constellation of pear, golden delicious apple, hazelnut, chalky soil tones, apple blossoms and vanillin oak. I am not certain, but this seems to have been raised in a touch higher percentage of new oak than the other single vineyard wines chez Saumaize. On the palate the wine is deep, pure and full, with excellent depth of fruit at the core, lovely soil signature, bright acids and lovely focus and balance on the long, complex and gently oaky finish. Good juice.
