Deep and compressed on the nose. Harmonious and fresh, showing salted lemons, seashells and briny fruit with a hint of white honey, white nuts and nougat. Medium-bodied, concentrated and mildly flinty yet subtle and composed. Long and pure. From extremely old vines, some dating back to 1891, with an average age of 100 years. Drinkable now, but much better in the next 20 to 25 years. 1,234 bottles.

The 2023 Credo Sémillon originates from vines planted in El Peral in 1895 and combines multiple vinifications of free-run juice and skin-contact fermentation in concrete eggs before maturing for two winters in new and used barrique. A deep golden color introduces a fantastically pure bouquet of orchard fruits, white flowers, vanillin, dried herbs and beeswax, followed by a rich, textural, buoyant and focused mouthfeel. It concludes with a soaring, lifted finish that slowly grows more expansive as it unfolds, regenerating depth, delicacy and persistence in equal measure with remarkable symmetry. It is already drinking quite well, but as I find consistently with the 2023 vintage, I suspect it will benefit from a bit more time in bottle to further congeal, then it should evolve gracefully into its second decade.
